Report from the Tour de Delta - July 10, 2009
Jak New
Manager, Garneau Evolution

Congrats to all that raced at the Tour de Delta. There were a number of EV, dEVa, dEVo and EVolution riders out on July 10th.  Including a win in the Cat 3's (Crit only) for Ted Martin and Ben Cowburn with a 4th, just getting pipped at the line.  In the Women's race (full Tour) Lisa Howard, Naomi Cooper and Rachel Canning put in a solid weekend of performances highlighted by Lisa Howard placing 4th in the Crit and 8th in the GC.

For Garneau Evolution, the guys raced hard and pulled off some great results. Jesse Reams finished 2nd in the Prologue and pulled on the Leaders Jersey for the Young Riders competition. The Cirt was very fast and very hard, with Jacob Schwingboth and Andrew Kyle picking up primes. Happily, everyone managed to finish the race, but not without a few incidents. Sunday was the big Road Race, covering 140kms total. The distance wasn't the deciding factor for this course, the wind was.  Strong cross winds in the transfer section meant echelons and splits in the pack. There were some scary moments for the GE lads, but once over to Delta Tim managed to get back into the front group and then into a long break of 5.  Mike Sidic and Jacob Schwingboth managed to get back into the front group (chase 1 at that point)  as well. Unfortunately, a couple of Tim's break companions were more worried about the KOM points than working well as a breakaway.  With a maximum break of 2 minutes, the chase started from the chase group which had all the big names in it and eventually caught the breakaway group.  Using what energy he had left, Tim put in another attack and tried to go solo with 2 remaining and Mike trying to slow things up in the front of the chase, but was chased down again.  On the final lap the winning break of 4 attacked (Tim tried to bridge on to this group too) and stayed away.  The chase pack came in for a sprint with Mike getting 10th and Tim 15th.

The surprise of the day came at the awards ceremony when they announced that Garneau Evolution won the Team GC!  Probably the highlight of the season....so far.

On behalf of the Team, thanks for all the support.

Cheers,

Jak
