This summer was one to remember for our very own Dr Jenn Turner. Jenn is the Head Chiropractor for Canadian Cycling and just returned from traveling to the Olympics with the Track Cycling team. You may have caught a glimpse of her on TV as she supported the Canadian Women’s team to their bronze medal in the track pursuit race, or while she was cheering on the other Canadian Olympians.
Here’s what Jenn had to say about it:
“I have always imagined doing something huge like this. My Olympic experience was unbelievable! It exceeded my expectations in every way. We were at training camp in Apeldoorn Holland for the 2 weeks leading up to the Olympics, and that’s where my work was primarily done. Once we got to London and settled into the Village, it was about fine tuning their bodies, and prepping for competition. Our Women’s team pursuit winning a bronze medal was a highlight for sure. They deserved every ounce of that medal with the hard work they had put in over the past few years!”
“Besides my usual duties as chiropractor, I assumed my role as “helper” or swannie, helping the athletes with race prep and recovery, providing towels and water bottles and just being there for anything the athletes need. This is why I was able to be at the events and stay in the Olympic village and get to experience so many aspects of the Olympics! I am looking forward to continuing my work with the national program.”
Jenn also got to experience the full Olympic atmosphere, taking in the Women’s Gold Medal soccer game, the Men’s Marathon, some women’s race walking and marathon swim in addition to experiencing some of the free events as an “Olympic Tourist”. “Staying in the village was incredible! The atmosphere was unparalleled to anything I have ever experienced before, I tried to take advantage of every single opportunity that was given to me so memories of this experience would stay with me for life.”
Jenn is excited to be back in the clinic treating clients and encouraging the staff team, and we’re excited to have her back!
