Active Rehab Programs
Are you suffering from an injury you sustained in a car accident? Are you unable to perform routine activities due to pain and require therapy? At MovéoSport and Rehabilitation Centre, we can help. Our experienced kinesiologists specialize in active rehab to help individuals recover from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident.
What is active rehab?
Active rehabilitation is an evidence-based exercise program that involves client’s active participation in their recovery. Unlike passive rehabilitation that involves movement catalyzed either by a machine, another person, or an external force, clients in active rehab initiate body movement and perform the various exercises required for their recovery. Activities may include general exercises or passive or active range-of-motion exercises that exert muscles and put the body in motion.
Active rehabilitation aims to restore function and strength to the injured areas of the body and allow individuals to return to work, sports or normal daily life.
Active rehabilitation is ideal for the repair of joints, muscles, soft tissues and the nervous system.

What should you expect from active rehab?
Each active rehab program is a series of customized sessions geared at improving an individual’s overall strength, mobility, flexibility, endurance and core stability. A registered kinesiologist designs a personalized,goal-oriented roadmap to recovery based on the functional assessment and needs of each client. Assessments help determine the performance level of a client and the most effective treatment plan.
Kinesiologists work with clients on a one-to-one basis in sessions ranging from 30 to 60 minutes in length. Clients are continually assessed during the program should adjustments be needed to meet the desired goal. Individual programs can last as little as a few months to as long as a few years, depending on the progress of the client.
The cost of your active rehab program can be directly billed to ICBC.
Why see a kinesiologist?
Active rehabilitation incorporates the principles of kinesiology, the study of human movement, to manage an individual’s injury or disability. Active rehabilitation programs are therefore best managed by kinesiologists.
Kinesiologists study the anatomy, physiology and biomechanics of the human body. They specialize in movement, performance, and function to strengthen and rehabilitate the body.
What are the benefits of active rehab?

How soon can you get started with an ICBC-approved active rehab program?
In accordance with the Insurance Vehicle Regulation, ICBC pre-authorizes 12 active rehab sessions conducted by a kinesiologist within 12 weeks of the date of the motor vehicle accident. No doctor’s note is required, although it is recommended. Beyond that date, however, clients will need a note from a doctor.
