Melissa has spent the last 5 years working as a strength and conditioning coach both before and during her athletic therapy schooling. During the last number of years Melissa has worked with athletes from a variety of sports including volleyball, soccer, basketball, football, hockey, rugby, and ultimate frisbee. She has a special interest in working with those who have suffered from acute traumatic knee injuries such as ligamentous injuries of the ACL or meniscus tears.
Melissa believes in the importance of appropriate injury management through the use of thorough full body assessment, manual therapy and exercise rehabilitation. She takes pride in implementing objective testing measures to inform progression and return to activity or sport. She also has a firm belief in working with the human in front of her, this includes addressing the physical but also clearing space for the mental. You are not just your injury! At the end of the day, Melissa hopes to help anyone get back to what they want to in life. Athletic Therapy is not just for athletes, it’s for everyone!
Prior to the completion of her Human Kinetics degree, Melissa played two years of college volleyball for Briercrest college in the ACAC. Nowadays you can either find her with a barbell in her hands or playing spikeball on the beach.
